Tragedy in Meerut: Mother Dies After Hospital Lift Accident Hours After Giving Birth

Meerut: In a heart-wrenching incident at Capital Hospital in Shastri Nagar, Meerut, a 30-year-old woman lost her life just hours after giving birth to a baby girl. The tragedy occurred when Karishma, who had undergone a cesarean delivery earlier in the day, was being shifted from the operation theatre to the general room.

As her stretcher was being transported in the hospital lift, the elevator’s belt snapped, causing it to plummet. Karishma sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to another hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.

The incident triggered chaos, with people trapped in the lift shouting for help. Attempts to rescue them were unsuccessful until technicians arrived. Meanwhile, the victim’s grieving family, enraged by the incident, vandalized the hospital. The staff and doctors fled the premises as the situation escalated.

The police, stationed at a post nearby, quickly intervened to restore order. A case has been filed against the doctor, manager, and hospital staff at Lohia Nagar police station.

The Chief Medical Officer of Meerut visited the hospital and ordered the transfer of 15 patients to nearby facilities. Capital Hospital has since been sealed, and a joint investigation by the police and CMO has been launched to determine accountability.

Karishma’s newborn daughter has been shifted to a nursery in another hospital. The devastating incident has left the family shattered and raised serious concerns about safety protocols in healthcare facilities.
