‘There’s An Effort To Pit Women Against Women’: Parvathy Breaks Silence On Unfollowing Geetu Mohandas
Mumbai: Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu has addressed the speculation surrounding her decision to unfollow filmmaker Geetu Mohandas on Instagram, insisting that there is no personal fallout between the two.
The buzz began after Parvathy, who has shared a long-standing friendship with Geetu, appeared to unfollow the filmmaker following the release of the trailer for Toxic. However, speaking to Galatta Plus, Parvathy dismissed suggestions of a rift and said she would not allow social media activity to be turned into a story about women being pitted against each other.
“Nothing happened there. There’s nothing to make news out of it,” Parvathy said.
She added that she believes there is a deliberate attempt to create divisions between women, particularly those associated with the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
“I think there is a concerted effort to pit women against women. That’s something that I am not going to bite anymore,” she said.
‘I Completely Refuse To Bite On It’
Addressing the follow-unfollow speculation directly, Parvathy said she was aware that people were hoping she would react publicly to the situation.
She pointed to her association with the WCC and said its members understand each other better because of the challenges they have faced together.
“Especially because of the WCC, it is very easy to pit us against each other,” she said, adding that people would “love nothing but for me to give into the follow/unfollow scenario.”
Parvathy also made it clear that she did not want her personal relationship with Geetu to become part of the conversation around Toxic.
According to the actor, the film should be judged on its own merits rather than through speculation about interpersonal relationships.
“If Geetu wants to make a movie, it has to come out without any interpersonal dislike. I completely refuse to bite on it,” she said.
Parvathy And Geetu’s Friendship Goes Back Years
The speculation is not entirely new. Parvathy and Geetu have shared a close friendship for years and remained connected even after the controversy surrounding the 2016 Malayalam film Kasaba.
Parvathy had faced significant criticism after describing a scene from the Mammootty-starrer as misogynistic and questioning the actor’s decision to deliver the dialogue. Geetu, who was sitting beside Parvathy during the discussion, had asked her to name the film.
Despite the controversy, the two continued to maintain their friendship.
