Supreme Court Questions Probe Delay in Indiabulls Case, Criticises SEBI and CBI

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has raised serious concerns over the manner in which allegations related to Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd, now rebranded as Sammaan Capital, were handled by investigating and regulatory authorities.

During the hearing, the apex court reportedly criticised the Central Bureau of Investigation for delays in taking action and questioned the role of the Securities and Exchange Board of India, accusing the market regulator of showing “double standards” while dealing with the matter.

The case is linked to allegations involving suspicious loan transactions, round-tripping of funds, and other financial irregularities said to have taken place during the company’s earlier operations under the Indiabulls name. Petitioners have reportedly argued that despite repeated complaints, there was insufficient action from the concerned agencies.

The Supreme Court is understood to have asked why prompt steps were not taken if such allegations had been on record for a considerable period. It also questioned whether different standards were being applied in the scrutiny of major corporate entities.

The bench reportedly stressed that public confidence in India’s financial system depends on fair, transparent, and timely investigations. It observed that if serious complaints are ignored or delayed, it can damage trust among investors and the wider public.

The court further directed better coordination between agencies so that the matter can be examined comprehensively. It indicated that institutions tasked with protecting market integrity must act independently and without hesitation when allegations of financial wrongdoing arise.

The hearing has once again brought focus on regulatory accountability, investor protection, and the need for strong oversight in cases involving large financial institutions.

The matter remains under judicial consideration, and any final findings would depend on the outcome of the ongoing legal and investigative process.
