Russia Claims 600 Ukrainian Drones Targeted Moscow Overnight, Several Casualties Reported
Moscow: Russia has claimed that hundreds of Ukrainian drones targeted the Moscow region in a sustained overnight attack, with officials reporting injuries and damage in several areas.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around 600 drones were detected heading towards the Moscow region between Sunday evening and 6:30 am local time. According to him, Russian air-defence forces intercepted or destroyed 201 drones over the Moscow region.
“From yesterday evening until 6:30 am today, 600 drones were flying towards Moscow region, of which 201 were destroyed in Moscow region,” Sobyanin said in a post on the state-backed MAX platform.
The claims could not be independently verified.
Three Injured Near Moscow
Sobyanin said three people were injured in the MKAD area, the zone around Moscow’s ring road. He said emergency services were providing medical assistance to those affected.
The reported attack comes as Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory in recent weeks.
Ukrainian drone attacks have increasingly targeted sites well away from the front line, including military and industrial facilities. More recently, Russian officials have also reported attacks affecting commercial and warehouse infrastructure.
Deaths Reported in Rostov Region
Separately, Russian authorities reported casualties in the southern Rostov region, which borders Ukraine.
Regional Governor Yuri Sliusar said three people were killed and another person was injured during the overnight attacks.
According to Sliusar, Russian forces destroyed more than 150 drones and missiles across three cities and nine districts in the region.
The attacks reportedly caused damage to residential and industrial properties in the Kamensky district.
In Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, several buildings reportedly suffered roof damage, while windows were blown out in an apartment building and at the city’s railway station.
Russian authorities said emergency teams were responding to the damage and assisting those affected.
The latest barrage comes amid an intensifying pattern of long-range drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides continuing to target infrastructure and military-related sites far from the battlefield.
The casualty figures and details of the overnight strikes remain based on Russian officials’ accounts, and independent verification is limited.
