Rajasthan Royals Deal: CCI Clears Poonawalla And Westview Acquisition Of Three Franchises

The Competition Commission of India has approved the proposed acquisition of Rajasthan Royals, Paarl Royals and Barbados Royals by Poonawalla Sports and Fitness and Westview Cricket.

The proposed change in ownership of three prominent cricket franchises has cleared an important regulatory hurdle.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of Rajasthan Royals, Paarl Royals and Barbados Royals by Westview Cricket and Poonawalla Sports and Fitness.

The CCI confirmed the development in a post on X, identifying the transaction as C-2026/07/1444.

The deal covers three franchises operating across different major T20 leagues. In India, the transaction involves the Rajasthan Royals, one of the teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It also includes the Paarl Royals, who play in South Africa’s SA20, and the Barbados Royals, who compete in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

With the CCI’s approval, the proposed transaction has now crossed a key regulatory stage. The approval relates to the acquisition of the three professional cricket franchises by Westview Cricket and Poonawalla Sports and Fitness.

The three teams have established themselves in some of the world’s major franchise-based T20 competitions, giving the proposed deal a presence across the Indian, South African and Caribbean cricket markets.

While the CCI approval clears the competition-regulation aspect of the transaction, any remaining steps required to complete the acquisition will still have to be addressed by the parties involved.
