Over 43 Lakh Names Removed from Jharkhand Draft Voter List After Special Revision Drive
Ranchi : The Election Commission has released Jharkhand’s draft electoral rolls after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), leading to the removal of more than 43 lakh names from the state’s voter list. The revision was carried out to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate and up to date.
According to Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar, the state had 2.64 crore registered voters before the revision exercise began. After the month-long verification drive, the draft voter list now includes 2.21 crore voters, with 83.51% of eligible electors submitting their enumeration forms.
The Special Intensive Revision was conducted between June 30 and July 29, during which Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visited homes across the state to distribute, collect and verify voter enumeration forms.
Officials said that 43.61 lakh names were removed under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate) category. The largest share of deletions came from people who had permanently shifted their residence, while several names were removed due to deaths, duplicate registrations or because voters could not be traced during the verification process.
The breakdown of deleted names includes:
- 7.63 lakh voters who had passed away.
- 15.92 lakh voters who had permanently shifted.
- 14.50 lakh people who were either untraceable or absent during verification.
- 4.38 lakh duplicate voter registrations.
- Around 1.16 lakh voters who refused to sign or submit their enumeration forms despite repeated visits by Booth Level Officers.
Election officials described the revision as a routine exercise aimed at improving the accuracy and credibility of the electoral rolls ahead of future elections. Citizens whose names are missing from the draft list will have an opportunity to raise objections or apply for corrections before the final voter list is published.
The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to carefully check the draft electoral rolls and complete the correction process, if required, to ensure they remain eligible to vote in upcoming elections.
