Nissan Unveils Future Roadmap With AI-Driven Cars, More EVs and Smarter Mobility

Japanese automaker Nissan has revealed an ambitious long-term strategy that places artificial intelligence, electrification and smarter mobility at the heart of its future vehicles.

Under a vision called “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” the company plans to transform how people interact with their cars by introducing AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV) that combine advanced driver assistance, smarter software and electrified powertrains.

According to Nissan’s President and CEO Ivan Espinosa, the new strategy sets the direction for the company beyond its current Re:Nissan transformation plan. The goal is to deliver vehicles that are safer, more intuitive and better connected to daily life, while improving the overall customer experience.

AI at the Centre of Nissan’s Future

Artificial Intelligence will play a crucial role in Nissan’s next generation of vehicles. The company plans to introduce Nissan AI Drive technology across around 90% of its lineup in the long run.

This system will work alongside Nissan AI Partner technology, designed to create a more natural connection between drivers and their vehicles by assisting with everyday activities and improving the overall driving experience.

Nissan also aims to push autonomous driving further. The upcoming Nissan Elgrand, expected to launch in summer 2026, will feature the next generation of ProPILOT driver-assistance technology, with end-to-end autonomous capability targeted by fiscal 2027.

Bigger Push Toward Electrification

Electrification remains a major pillar of Nissan’s strategy. The company plans to expand its range of hybrid and electric powertrains to meet different market demands worldwide.

A key part of this plan is the evolution of Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid technology, which delivers an electric-like driving experience without the need to plug in the vehicle for charging. This technology will act as a bridge between traditional hybrids and fully electric vehicles.

In addition to e-POWER, Nissan will also introduce new hybrid systems, plug-in hybrids and range-extender technologies, some of which will be developed through strategic partnerships.

Leaner Product Lineup

As part of its new strategy, Nissan plans to streamline its global lineup from 56 models to 45. The company intends to drop weaker-selling vehicles while focusing more resources on high-growth segments.

Models will be grouped into four categories:

  • Heartbeat – Iconic models that represent Nissan’s identity and innovation
  • Core – High-volume models that drive the company’s global business
  • Growth – Vehicles targeting expanding markets
  • Partner – Collaborative models developed with industry partners

Among the vehicles highlighted in the strategy are the Nissan X‑Trail, Nissan Rogue hybrid with e-POWER, the fully electric Nissan Juke EV, the rugged Nissan Xterra, and the performance-focused Nissan Skyline.

Meanwhile, Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti will also see a revival with new models, beginning with the Infiniti QX65 SUV expected in 2027.

A New Industrial Approach

To support these changes, Nissan will also transform how it develops vehicles. Instead of building cars one model at a time, the company plans to shift toward shared vehicle platforms and software architectures.

Three major product families will eventually account for over 80% of Nissan’s global sales, helping the automaker speed up development, reduce costs and launch new technologies faster.

With AI, electrification and smarter mobility at the core, Nissan hopes this new strategy will position the brand strongly for the next era of the automotive industry.
