Nadir Godrej to Step Down as Chairman & MD of Godrej Industries After 25 Years

After more than two decades at the helm, veteran industrialist Nadir Godrej is set to step down as Chairman and Managing Director of Godrej Industries on August 13, marking the end of a significant chapter in the company’s leadership.
As he turns 75 this August, the board has decided to honour his long contribution by appointing him as Chairman Emeritus from August 14. His elder brother, Adi Godrej, will also hold the same honorary title.
The company has already named the next leader. Pirojsha Godrej will take over as the Chairperson of the board and the Godrej Industries Group starting August 14. He has been designated as Chairperson-Designate with immediate effect to ensure a smooth transition.
In a message to the board, Nadir Godrej expressed confidence in the leadership team and said he believes the company will continue creating long-term value for stakeholders. He also assured that he would remain available to guide and support the organisation whenever needed.
Along with stepping down from Godrej Industries, he will also relinquish his roles as Chairperson and Non-Executive Director of Godrej Agrovet and as Chairperson and Director of Astec LifeSciences.
Meanwhile, the board has approved the appointment of Burjis Godrej as a Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director of the company, following recommendations from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
Over the years, Nadir Godrej played a key role in expanding the group’s businesses in animal feed, agricultural inputs, and chemicals. Known for his deep interest in research, he also holds several patents related to agricultural chemicals and surfactants.
Beyond the company, he has contributed actively to industry bodies such as the Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association of India, Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association, and Oil Technologists’ Association of India.
Academically, he brings an impressive background—earning a Chemical Engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s degree from Stanford University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
His retirement from executive leadership marks the passing of the baton to the next generation of the Godrej family, while still keeping his decades of experience connected to the group’s future.
