Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences of 11 Eateries, Including Two Domino’s Pizza Outlets, Over Food Safety Violations

Mumbai, October 22, 2026:
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 11 food establishments across the state following inspections that revealed multiple hygiene and food safety violations. The action includes two Domino’s Pizza outlets, while authorities also seized nearly 38 tonnes of food stock valued at ₹54.66 lakh during a statewide enforcement drive.
According to an official statement issued on Thursday, inspections conducted on October 21 and 22 uncovered several lapses at food establishments. These included unhygienic kitchen conditions, poorly maintained drainage systems, rusted storage racks and utensils, and the mixing of returned bread with fresh stock. Officials also identified shortcomings in temperature records, cases where food workers did not have the required medical certificates, and the use of unauthorised food colours in sweets.
The FDA said the action was taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, which lays down requirements for food hygiene, handling, storage and quality. The inspections were intended to identify violations and ensure that food businesses comply with the prescribed safety standards.
Nine establishments in Mumbai face action
Of the 11 establishments whose licences were suspended, nine are located in Mumbai, while two are in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division.
The establishments named in the report include S K Bakery in Mazgaon, Nekzad Restaurant in Grant Road, Foodies Multi Cuisine in Bandra West, Arabian Luqma in Jogeshwari West, Delhi Zaiak in Kurla West, You Mee at R City Mall in Ghatkopar West, Bikkgane Biryani in Govandi, and a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Bhandup West.
The action also covers a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Beed and K K Bakers in Rahmat Nagar, Parbhani.
The report highlighted an inspection-related violation at a Domino’s outlet involving chicken and paneer being handled on the same grill. The FDA suspended the licence of the outlet in Beed following inspection-related violations, according to the report.
The findings underline the importance of maintaining proper hygiene and food-handling practices in commercial kitchens. Food establishments are expected to follow appropriate procedures for preparing, storing and handling ingredients, maintaining clean equipment, and keeping the required safety records.
Nearly 38 tonnes of food stock seized
Alongside the licence suspensions, the statewide drive resulted in the seizure of 37,991.4 kilograms of food stock worth approximately ₹54.66 lakh, the FDA said.
The Konkan division accounted for the largest seizure during the operation. Officials confiscated 33,286 kilograms of rajma and pulses, valued at around ₹50.05 lakh, from RDC Agro Ventures Pvt Ltd in Navi Mumbai. According to the FDA statement, the stock was suspected to be substandard and incorrectly labelled.
In the Nashik division, officials seized 483.4 kilograms of food products worth approximately ₹1.70 lakh. The seized items included refined soybean oil, butter, ghee, yellow sev and papdi.
The action followed concerns about product quality and compliance shortcomings at one establishment. Officials reportedly found that the establishment lacked a functioning laboratory, a technical person and the required analysis reports.
Jaggery and fennel seeds seized in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division
The enforcement drive also extended to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, where the FDA seized 4,222 kilograms of jaggery and fennel seeds valued at around ₹2.91 lakh from Aurangabad Cold Storage LLP.
The seizures formed part of the department’s wider effort to examine food products and identify stock that may not meet the required standards. Such inspections help authorities check whether businesses are complying with applicable requirements relating to food quality, labelling, storage and handling.
FDA continues statewide food safety enforcement
The latest action reflects the FDA’s continuing efforts to strengthen food safety oversight across Maharashtra. By inspecting food establishments, checking records and seizing products suspected of falling short of prescribed standards, officials aim to improve compliance and protect consumers.
The licence suspensions and stock seizures also serve as a reminder to food businesses of the importance of maintaining hygienic premises, ensuring proper food storage, training staff in safe handling practices and keeping mandatory documentation up to date.
The FDA said the measures were part of its statewide enforcement drive to check compliance with food safety standards. Further regulatory action may depend on the findings and procedures applicable to the establishments concerned.
For consumers, the development highlights the role of food safety inspections in identifying potential risks within the supply chain and food service sector. Continued monitoring and compliance by businesses remain essential to maintaining public confidence in the safety and quality of food available in the market.
