Similarly, British Infantry Bazar has been renamed Matadin Valmiki Bazar, another British Infantry Bazar has been renamed Mangal Pandey Bazar, and Kennedy Market has been renamed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Market.
The Defence Minister said the renaming was intended to strengthen the connection between present-day India and its history, particularly the country’s freedom struggle and the contributions of national figures.

Singh said the idea of a developed India should extend beyond large infrastructure projects, modern buildings and major construction works.
