Love, Lies And A Deadly End: Gurugram Woman Allegedly Burnt Alive After Discovering Boyfriend’s Marriage

Gurugram: A shocking murder case has emerged from Gurugram, where a young woman was allegedly set on fire by her boyfriend after discovering that he was already married.

Police have arrested 35-year-old Sunil Kumar, a resident of Gubhana village in Jhajjar, in connection with the incident. He has been sent to police custody for further investigation.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Divya Kataria from Basai village in Gurugram, suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to Artemis Hospital on June 19. After her condition worsened, she was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors, Divya succumbed to her injuries on June 27.

According to police, the case initially remained quiet because when officers first spoke to Divya and her mother, they reportedly refused to take legal action.

However, the matter took a serious turn after Divya’s cousin, Vikas, lodged a formal complaint on June 30.

In his complaint, Vikas claimed that Divya had revealed to him on June 22 that Sunil had set her on fire and threatened to kill her, her mother, and her sister if she told anyone the truth.

Police investigation revealed that Divya and Sunil had known each other for over a year after meeting at Sunil’s gold-buying shop, where she had gone to sell jewellery. Their acquaintance later turned into a relationship.

The conflict reportedly began when Divya discovered that Sunil was already married.

Investigators said the couple had an argument on June 18 at Sunil’s shop over the issue, during which he allegedly poured kerosene on her.

In an attempt to settle their differences, Divya booked a flat at Central Park on Sohna Road, where the two spent the night.

But the next morning, another argument broke out. Police allege that during this heated exchange, Sunil set Divya on fire.

After the incident, he took her to the hospital, but investigators believe this was an attempt to cover up the crime.

During the probe, police recovered a kerosene bottle from Sunil’s shop along with his mobile phone, which may provide crucial evidence in the case.

The case has once again raised concerns over violence in personal relationships and the dangers of betrayal turning deadly.
