Iranian President Dismisses Rift Rumours, Says Communication With Supreme Leader Is Challenging but Relations Remain Strong
Tehran: Amid growing speculation about divisions within Iran’s leadership, President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied reports of a serious rift with the country’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. While acknowledging that direct communication with him has become difficult under the current circumstances, the president insisted that their relationship remains positive and based on mutual trust.
Speaking about the situation, Pezeshkian said reaching Mojtaba Khamenei is “very difficult at the moment,” but stressed that the Supreme Leader’s guidance continues to provide strength to the country’s leadership during a challenging period.
Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed the role of Supreme Leader after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has maintained a low public profile since the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel escalated. Addressing speculation over their relationship, Pezeshkian said he has held constructive meetings with the Supreme Leader, describing him as someone who has always responded with “kindness and very sound logic.” He also suggested that misinformation and rumours have created a misleading image of Khamenei, especially during the ongoing conflict.
The president’s remarks come after media reports claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei had issued a “final ultimatum” to Pezeshkian and shifted greater authority to senior members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), particularly Commander Ahmad Vahidi, on matters related to negotiations and national security.
According to those reports, Pezeshkian had previously threatened to resign over disagreements regarding foreign policy and security decisions, arguing that his administration had been sidelined. It was also claimed that the Supreme Leader was no longer discouraging such resignation attempts, a move interpreted by some observers as reducing the president’s influence.
