Inside Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Renovation: New Gallery May Bring Back His Iconic Fan Appearances

Mumbai, September 21, 2026: Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic Bandra residence, Mannat, is getting a major makeover, and the renovation may bring back one of the most familiar sights for his fans — the superstar appearing before the crowds gathered outside his home.

The actor recently offered a glimpse into what could be planned for the renovated property during an interaction with fans on X. When a fan jokingly suggested that Shah Rukh Khan should sell Mannat if he was no longer going to appear from its famous gallery, the actor responded that a new gallery was being built.

His reply has sparked excitement among fans, as it suggests that the renovated Mannat could once again have a dedicated space from where the actor can greet people gathered outside the iconic bungalow.

For years, Shah Rukh Khan’s appearances from Mannat have been an important part of Mumbai’s celebrity culture. On birthdays, festivals and other special occasions, large numbers of fans gather outside the Bandra residence hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor. His balcony and gallery appearances have become almost synonymous with the property itself.

Mannat renovation has been underway since 2025

The renovation of Mannat has been going on since 2025, prompting Shah Rukh Khan, his wife and filmmaker-designer Gauri Khan, and their children Aryan, Suhana and AbRam to temporarily move out of the property.

The family is currently staying in two duplex apartments at Puja Casa in Pali Hill, Khar, which were leased as temporary accommodation while renovation and repair work continued at Mannat.

According to reports, the extensive work is expected to be completed by December 2026. Once the renovation is finished, the Khan family is expected to return to their long-time Bandra home.

Major changes to the Mannat annexe

One of the most significant parts of the renovation has been the expansion and refurbishment of the Mannat annexe.

The annexe previously consisted of around six floors. As part of the renovation, two additional floors with a combined area of approximately 7,000 square feet have been added. This expansion has taken the total size of the annexe to more than 30,000 square feet.

The existing six floors of the annexe are also being repaired and renovated, making the overall project a substantial upgrade to the property.

However, the main bungalow itself has not received additional floors. Mannat is classified as a Grade-III heritage property, which places restrictions on large-scale changes to its original structure. As a result, the major expansion has focused on the annexe rather than adding floors to the heritage bungalow.

From Villa Vienna to Mannat

Mannat has a history that goes back well before Shah Rukh Khan became its owner.

The property was originally known as Villa Vienna and was constructed in 1914. It was owned by Nariman A. Dubash before eventually becoming associated with one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.

Shah Rukh Khan purchased the property in 2001 for around ₹13 crore from the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust. He initially renamed it Jannat, meaning heaven, before changing the name to Mannat, which means prayer or a heartfelt wish.

Over the years, Mannat has become much more than a private residence. It has evolved into one of Mumbai’s most recognisable landmarks, particularly for Shah Rukh Khan’s enormous fan following.

A gallery that could reconnect SRK with his fans

The possibility of a new gallery has added another interesting dimension to the renovation.

Shah Rukh Khan has traditionally greeted fans from his home, especially on important occasions. Thousands of people have often gathered outside Mannat, turning the area around the residence into a celebration of the actor’s popularity.

His recent comment about building a new gallery indicates that the renovated property could continue this tradition.

For fans, the renovation therefore represents more than new interiors, repairs or additional space. If the new gallery becomes part of the finished design, it could provide Shah Rukh Khan with a familiar place to once again step out and acknowledge the crowds waiting outside.

With work expected to be completed by December 2026, attention will now remain on what the renovated Mannat will ultimately look like — and whether the new gallery becomes the setting for Shah Rukh Khan’s much-loved fan interactions once again.
