India Stun Qatar 3-2 To Reach Men’s Volleyball Quarter-Finals At Asian Games
India: The Indian men’s volleyball team produced a remarkable comeback on Tuesday, fighting back from two sets down to defeat Qatar 3-2 and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games.
India eventually prevailed 26-28, 25-27, 25-23, 25-20, 24-22 in a marathon Pool C encounter that lasted two hours and 47 minutes.
The victory marked India’s third consecutive win in the competition and kept their unbeaten run intact.
India had begun their campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Vietnam, winning 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20. They followed that up with another straight-set victory over Hong Kong China, winning 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21.
But the contest against Qatar proved to be a completely different challenge.
India Pull Off Stunning Comeback
Qatar edged out India in two closely fought opening sets, taking the first 28-26 and the second 27-25.
With their backs against the wall, the Indian team refused to give up.
India fought their way back into the contest by taking the third set 25-23. They carried that momentum into the fourth, winning 25-20 and forcing a deciding fifth set.
The final set was another tense battle, with neither side willing to surrender. India eventually held their nerve to win 24-22, completing an extraordinary comeback and sealing the match 3-2.
Jerome Vinith Leads India’s Attack
Jerome Vinith was India’s standout scorer, finishing with 27 points, all of them coming through spikes.
Amit Singh Balwan was not far behind with 24 points. He contributed 22 points through spikes and added two blocks.
Joel Benjamin Jebaraj also played a crucial role, reaching double figures with 17 points. His tally included 14 spikes, two blocks and one service point.
The victory sends India into the quarter-finals, with all four quarter-final matches scheduled to be played on Thursday.
