‘Gurugram School Murder’ To Be Adapted For Screen, Bringing A Family’s Fight For Justice To Life

The heartbreaking 2017 Gurugram school murder case is now being adapted for the screen by Matchbox Shots, the production house known for projects like Andhadhun and IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

The upcoming adaptation is based on journalist Leena Dhankhar’s book “The Gurugram School Murder,” which explores one of India’s most disturbing and widely discussed criminal cases.

The case dates back to September 2017, when a seven-year-old boy, publicly known as Prince, was found murdered inside a school bathroom at an elite school in Gurugram. The shocking incident sparked nationwide outrage and intense media attention.

Initial investigations had led local police to detain a school bus conductor, who was later found to be innocent. The case later took a dramatic turn when the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a fellow student, alleging the crime was committed to delay school examinations.

The adaptation is being led by producer Dikssha Jyote Routray, who said the story goes beyond crime and reflects the emotional trauma faced by families as well as the pressures affecting children in modern urban society.

Author Leena Dhankhar also described the project as more than just a murder investigation, calling it a story about grief, pain, and a family’s long struggle for justice.

Prince’s father, who continues to seek accountability in the case, has also extended support to the adaptation. He said not a single day passes without remembering his son and expressed hope that the project would help more people understand the family’s suffering.

The makers say the adaptation aims to present the sensitive case with responsibility, research, and emotional depth while highlighting the lasting impact such tragedies leave behind on families and society.
