Gurugram Hit-and-Run Case: Kalyan Bainsla Allegedly Chased Woman Biker for 2 Km Before Crash, Say SIT Sources

New Delhi: The investigation into the alleged hit-and-run involving a woman biker in Gurugram has revealed further details about what happened in the moments leading up to the crash. According to sources in the Special Investigation Team (SIT), accused Kalyan Bainsla allegedly chased the woman for around two kilometres before his car struck her two-wheeler.
The incident, which was captured on video and later shared by the woman on social media, has drawn widespread attention and prompted a detailed investigation by the Gurugram Police.
According to SIT sources, Bainsla was returning from a club with three friends when the incident took place. Police allege that Bainsla was driving the car, while his friend Lavnish was seated beside him.
Lavnish has also been taken into police custody.
Investigation Focuses on What Happened Before the Crash
According to the SIT sources, the first interaction between Bainsla and the woman biker, identified as Shivani Chauhan, also known as Sia, took place near the Sector 53 metro station in Gurugram.
The two sides reportedly had an argument following the initial interaction. Police sources allege that Lavnish encouraged Bainsla to follow the woman on his motorcycle.
The investigation is now examining what happened during the approximately two-kilometre stretch between the first confrontation and the collision.
According to the sources, the chase ended when Bainsla’s car struck the woman riding an Aprilia RS 457. The impact allegedly caused her to fall from the motorcycle and slide along the road for several metres.
Video Shows Moments Before the Collision
The case gained significant public attention after Sia shared a video of the incident.
In the footage, Bainsla’s car can be seen following the woman on the road. The woman had reportedly objected to the car being driven too close to her.
According to her account, she asked the occupants of the car to maintain a safe distance. The situation allegedly escalated after an exchange between them.
The video also appears to show the car hitting the motorcycle from behind, causing the rider to lose control.
Police are examining the footage along with statements from those involved as part of the investigation.
Two Other People in the Car Questioned
Apart from Bainsla and Lavnish, two other people were reportedly present inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The Gurugram Police have served notices to the two individuals and are expected to record their statements before deciding what further action, including possible arrests, should be taken.
Their accounts could be important in establishing what happened inside the vehicle and what each person did before and during the alleged collision.
Police Check Whether Alcohol Was Involved
As part of the investigation, Bainsla’s blood and urine samples have been sent for testing.
The tests are intended to determine whether he had consumed alcohol before driving.
The police have also impounded the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz allegedly involved in the incident. According to the investigation, the vehicle was registered in the name of an acquaintance of Bainsla.
The forensic and medical evidence is expected to form part of the broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Bainsla Arrested in Rajasthan
Bainsla was arrested a day after the incident from Dausa, Rajasthan.
Following his arrest, police said he attempted to escape custody while asking to go to the toilet. He reportedly fell during the attempt and sustained injuries. He was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he received first aid.
He was later brought before the authorities as the investigation continued.
Police Examine the Alleged Intent Behind the Crash
Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the victim had alleged that Bainsla deliberately struck her after an argument.
The officer said police were examining the circumstances of the collision and the victim’s claim that the incident was an intentional attempt to harm her.
Police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events, including the alleged argument, the pursuit and the collision, before reaching conclusions about the charges and intent involved.
What Sia Told Police
Sia has said that she wants more than just arrests in the case and has called for legal action against everyone she believes was involved.
After recording her statement before a magistrate in Gurugram and undergoing a medico-legal examination, she said that simply making arrests would not be enough if the case did not ultimately result in appropriate legal consequences.
She has also alleged that there were four people in the vehicle and questioned why only two of them had initially been taken into custody.
According to Sia, the other occupants should also be investigated to determine their role in the incident.
Investigation Continues
The SIT is now working to establish the complete sequence of events, from the initial interaction near Sector 53 to the alleged pursuit and eventual collision.
Statements from the two people who were also in the vehicle are expected to help investigators understand what happened inside the car. Police are also examining the video evidence, medical reports, vehicle details and the results of the blood and urine tests.
The investigation will determine the respective roles of the accused and others who were present at the scene.
For now, the allegations made by the victim and the findings attributed to police and SIT sources remain part of an ongoing investigation. Further evidence and the legal proceedings will determine the facts and responsibility in the case.
