“FSSAI Cracks Down on Food Safety Violations, Orders Product Recall and Takes Action Against Manufacturers”
New Delhi: In a major crackdown aimed at protecting consumer health, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken strict action against multiple food business operators for alleged violations of food safety regulations. The regulator has ordered the recall of a food product, suspended a manufacturing licence, and banned the sale of a health supplement after identifying serious compliance failures.
One of the key actions involves M/s Sun Organic Industries Pvt Ltd, which has been directed to immediately recall its Wonderland Raisins from the market. Regulatory tests conducted by the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad and the Referral Laboratory at NIFTEM-K found pesticide residue levels exceeding the permissible limits. Based on these findings, the product was declared “unsafe” under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The company has been instructed to withdraw the entire batch from the market and regularly update FSSAI on the progress of the recall until the process is completed.
In another significant move, the food regulator suspended the manufacturing licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals’ Nutraceutical Manufacturing Unit with immediate effect. An inspection reportedly uncovered several major and critical lapses, including poor quality management systems, inadequate hygiene standards and failures to comply with prescribed manufacturing practices.
FSSAI also issued a prohibition order against M/s Vatave Health Care, barring the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of its Folineuro Syrup (Folinic Acid Syrup). According to the regulator, the product was marketed as a nutritional health supplement using misleading claims related to brain function, despite not meeting the requirements laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016.
The food safety authority said these enforcement measures are part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and ensure that food businesses strictly follow the country’s food safety standards. It also warned that companies found violating the law could face stringent legal and penal action.
