ED Attaches 17 Properties Worth ₹6.52 Crore in Suresh Patel Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached 17 immovable properties worth approximately ₹6.52 crore in Daman and Valsad, Gujarat, as part of a money laundering investigation involving Suresh Jagubhai Patel and others. The action was taken by the ED’s Surat Sub-Zonal Office on September 8, 2026, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The investigation was initiated following multiple FIRs registered by Daman Police, Gujarat Police and Mumbai Police against Suresh Patel, also known as Sukha, and his alleged associates. The cases involve allegations of corruption, illegal possession of firearms, murder, extortion, forgery, passport fraud and copyright violations.

According to the ED’s investigation, Suresh Jagubhai Patel allegedly established control over the scrap trading and transportation businesses in Daman by targeting rival traders. The agency alleges that threats, intimidation, the use of muscle power and his criminal background were used to eliminate competition and consolidate his influence over these businesses.

The ED had previously filed Prosecution Complaint No. 10/2024 before the Special Court under the PMLA in Daman on November 27, 2024. The complaint named Patel, his associate Mahesh Nanda and others in connection with the case.

The latest attachment is part of a broader effort to identify and secure assets allegedly linked to the proceeds of crime. In earlier proceedings, the agency seized or froze cash and bank balances worth approximately ₹2.90 crore. It had also provisionally attached 24 immovable properties in Daman and Mumbai valued at around ₹4.42 crore. Those property attachments were subsequently confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority under the PMLA in New Delhi.

With the latest action, the total value of movable and immovable assets seized, attached or frozen in the case has reached approximately ₹13.85 crore, according to the ED.

The agency’s action aims to prevent the suspected proceeds of crime from being concealed, transferred or otherwise dealt with during the ongoing proceedings. Further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation and related proceedings.
