“Don’t Call Me Pakistani”: Hyderabad Apartment Dispute Sparks Outrage, Police Begin Probe

Hyderabad , 20 June : A heated argument inside a residential apartment complex in Hyderabad has turned into a major controversy after a young resident was allegedly called a “Pakistani” during a public confrontation. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, has triggered outrage and led to police action.

The clash took place at Janapriya Lakefront Apartments in Kapra, where an argument reportedly broke out between some residents and members of the apartment association. What began as a routine dispute quickly escalated when one of the society committee members allegedly used the term “Pakistani” and accused the young man of being an “illegal” occupant.

The young resident strongly pushed back against the remark, questioning how anyone could call his identity into question without proof. In the viral video, he can be seen emotionally defending himself and repeatedly saying that he is an Indian citizen. He also shared that his grandfather had served as a Subedar in the Indian Army, making the accusation even more painful for his family.

His family members, who were recording the incident, expressed anger and disappointment, saying that being labelled “Pakistani” simply because they are Muslims was deeply hurtful and unacceptable. They also claimed that the remarks were made openly in front of police personnel present at the spot.

As the argument intensified, more residents gathered around, while police tried to calm the situation and prevent it from getting worse. After the video went viral and sparked public criticism, the Hyderabad Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Officials are now reviewing video footage and taking statements from those involved. Police said they are examining whether offences such as intentional insult, criminal intimidation, provocation, or promoting enmity were committed. Senior officers have said legal action will follow based on the findings.

The incident has once again raised concerns about how quickly personal and religious identities can become targets during everyday disputes, and how such words can deeply affect people and communities.
