Delhi-NCR Wakes Up To Heavy Rain, Waterlogging And Traffic Chaos
New Delhi: Delhi woke up to another spell of heavy rain on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also leaving commuters dealing with waterlogged roads, slow-moving traffic and difficult travel conditions across several parts of the National Capital Region.
Fresh showers began during the morning hours, with several areas reporting waterlogging and traffic congestion. For office-goers, schoolchildren and other commuters, the downpour turned the morning rush into a challenging journey.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall at many places across Delhi, with the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated locations. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected to accompany the showers.
At Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, the temperature stood at 26.6°C at 5:30 am, while humidity touched 100 per cent. The station recorded around 3 mm of rainfall by 8:30 am, according to the IMD.
The latest spell of rain comes just a day after heavy showers caused widespread disruption across Delhi-NCR. Several roads were inundated, traffic moved at a crawl in multiple areas and some commuters faced long delays. Flight operations were also affected, with several flights reportedly being diverted.
While the rain has brought cooler conditions and some relief from the humid weather, authorities and commuters remain alert as more intense showers are expected in parts of the capital.
With the monsoon continuing to remain active, residents are being advised to keep an eye on weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall and exercise caution on waterlogged roads.
