Delhi Gang-Rape Case: Two Brothers, Including Lawyer and BSc Student, Among Three Arrested

New Delhi: Police have arrested two brothers from Haryana in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in South Delhi, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to three.
The teenager was allegedly assaulted by three men who police said were posing as law enforcement officers at a park near Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi. The incident was reported on Monday, following which police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of law.
According to police, the two brothers identified as Hemant and Mukesh were arrested early Tuesday morning from their residence in Faridabad, Haryana. They had allegedly been on the run after the incident.
First accused arrested after police encounter
Police had initially arrested another accused, identified as Asif, after a brief exchange of fire during the investigation.
Following his arrest, police launched a search operation to locate the two remaining suspects. Their arrest early Tuesday completed the arrests of all three accused named in the case, according to the police.
The investigation is continuing, and authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the events leading up to it.
Lawyer and BSc student among accused
Police said one of the arrested brothers, Hemant, is a lawyer who practises at Saket court in Delhi.
According to investigators, Hemant allegedly used legal terminology while interacting with and intimidating the teenager before the alleged sexual assault took place. Police allege that the three men subsequently assaulted the girl.
His brother Mukesh is reportedly a final-year BSc student.
The brothers’ father is also a practising lawyer at a court in Faridabad, according to police.
Case registered under POCSO Act
Since the survivor is 17 years old, the case has been registered under the POCSO Act, which provides legal protection to children from sexual offences.
The police investigation is expected to focus on establishing the sequence of events, identifying the individual roles of the accused and collecting evidence related to the alleged crime.
The arrests mark an important development in the investigation, but the allegations against the accused will ultimately be decided through the legal process.
Police have continued their investigation into the case, while the accused are expected to face further legal proceedings.
