Congress Leader and Son Shot Dead in Bengal While Returning Home
Kolkata: A Congress leader and his 24-year-old son were allegedly shot dead by unidentified attackers in West Bengal’s Nadia district, triggering tension in the area.
The deceased have been identified as Anisur Rahman, 50, a member of the Bengal Congress Committee and general secretary of the Nadia District Congress Committee, and his son Abu Sufiyan.
According to preliminary reports, the father and son were returning home from Bethuadahari on Saturday when their car came under attack near the Nagadi railway gate.
The attackers allegedly opened fire at the vehicle before attacking the two men with sharp weapons. Initial reports suggest that both Rahman and his son died at the scene.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and began searching for those responsible.
Rahman was considered one of the senior Congress leaders in the Nakashipara area and had been involved in several organisational responsibilities within the party.

“I strongly condemn and denounce the murder of Anisur Rahman, a Congress leader from Nadia, and his son in the most severe language,” Chowdhury wrote on Facebook.
He questioned how people could feel safe and freely participate in political activities following such an incident, particularly on Independence Day.
Chowdhury also called for a fair and impartial investigation into the double killing.
