CBI Organises Week-Long Training Programme on Economic Offence Investigation for Officers from 13 Countries

New Delhi, 2 September 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully conducted a week-long training programme on the “Investigation of Economic Offences” for law enforcement officers from 13 member countries of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme. The training was held from 27 August to 2 September 2026 at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad and was organised under the ITEC initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
The programme was designed to strengthen the knowledge, understanding and practical capabilities of participating officers in investigating economic crimes. With financial fraud and other economic offences becoming increasingly complex and often extending beyond national borders, the training aimed to familiarise officers with modern investigative approaches, standard operating procedures (SOPs), practical challenges and best practices for the effective investigation and prosecution of such cases.
A total of 30 officers from 13 ITEC member countries participated in the course. The participating countries were Bhutan, Fiji, the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland), Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Oman, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia.
Throughout the week, the programme focused on important aspects of economic offence investigation, providing participants with an opportunity to enhance their professional expertise and gain a better understanding of the procedures involved in handling financial crimes. The training also highlighted the importance of adopting effective investigative methods, following established procedures and strengthening the skills required to address the challenges associated with economic offences.
The initiative reflects India’s continued efforts to share its professional expertise and investigative experience with partner countries through international cooperation and capacity-building programmes. Such training opportunities help law enforcement agencies exchange knowledge, understand different investigative practices and develop stronger professional networks to address financial crimes more effectively.
The valediction ceremony was held at the CBI Headquarters in New Delhi on 2 September 2026. Shri N. Venu Gopal, Additional Director of the CBI, presided over the programme and interacted with the participating officers.
Addressing the gathering, the Additional Director emphasised the importance of investigating economic offences, explaining their different forms and the far-reaching consequences they can have beyond geographical boundaries. He highlighted the need for effective investigation and prosecution to tackle such crimes and underscored the importance of professional knowledge and cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by economic offences.
The interaction also provided an opportunity for participants to engage with senior CBI leadership and reflect on the importance of international collaboration in strengthening investigative capabilities.
The successful completion of the programme marks another step towards enhancing cooperation between India and its ITEC partner countries in the field of law enforcement. By sharing knowledge, investigative practices and professional experience, the initiative aims to contribute to more effective investigations, stronger institutional capabilities and improved cooperation in tackling economic offences across borders.
