Biryani Dinner, Late-Night Dessert, Then Tragedy: Mumbai Family of Four Dies Within Hours

What began as a simple family dinner turned into an unimaginable tragedy in Mumbai, leaving an entire community shaken.

On Saturday night, Abdullah Abdul Kadar, a 40-year-old shop owner, his wife Nasreen, and their two daughters — 16-year-old Ayesha and 13-year-old Zainab — shared a meal with relatives. It was an ordinary gathering filled with food, conversation, and togetherness. Biryani was served, and later, after returning home, the family had watermelon as a late-night treat.

For a few hours, everything seemed normal.

From Normal Night to Sudden Illness

In the early hours of Sunday, things took a devastating turn. Around 5 am, all four family members began experiencing severe symptoms — vomiting, diarrhoea, and extreme weakness.

A local doctor was first called in, but as their condition worsened rapidly, they were rushed to Sir JJ Hospital for urgent treatment.

Despite medical efforts, the outcome was heartbreaking. Young Zainab passed away first in the morning, followed by her mother and elder sister. By late evening, Abdullah also succumbed.

A Community in Shock

The sudden loss of an entire family within just 12 hours has left neighbours and relatives stunned. What was meant to be a warm family evening ended in grief that is hard to comprehend.

Doctors who initially examined them noted the severity of their condition, describing extreme dehydration and distress.

What Could Have Caused It?

Police suspect food poisoning as a possible cause, but investigations are still ongoing. A partially eaten piece of watermelon has been sent for laboratory testing, along with samples collected during post-mortem examinations.

Authorities, including the food safety department and forensic teams, are working together to determine whether contamination, infection, or any toxic substance played a role.

Awaiting Answers

While initial findings point toward food-related illness, officials say the final cause of death will only be confirmed after detailed reports, including histopathology and microbiology tests, are completed.

For now, a grieving community waits for answers — and mourns a family lost far too soon after what should have been just another peaceful night at home.
