Bengaluru FC Suspends Salaries Amid ISL Uncertainty; Sunil Chhetri Also Affected

Bengaluru FC, a prominent club in the Indian Super League (ISL), has announced the suspension of salaries for its first-team players and support staff due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the upcoming domestic football season.

In an official statement shared on social media, the club revealed that the financial move was necessitated by the lack of clarity regarding the ISL’s future. The current deadlock between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has disrupted league operations, forcing clubs to reconsider their financial commitments.

“This decision was extremely difficult, but the continued ambiguity around the league has left us with no alternative. The welfare of our players, staff, and their families remains our top priority, and we are maintaining communication with them as we await a resolution,” the club stated.

Despite the halt in salary payments, Bengaluru FC clarified that its youth programs, including men’s and women’s teams and the BFC Soccer Schools, will not be affected by the decision.

The club emphasized the urgent need for FSDL and AIFF to resolve the ongoing conflict, warning that the prolonged uncertainty is detrimental to the sport’s growth in India.

Among those impacted is Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri, who, like the rest of the senior squad, will not receive a salary during this period.

The AIFF is expected to meet with CEOs from eight ISL clubs following growing concerns about the direction and management of football in the country.
