Apple Unveils iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: India Prices, Sale Dates and Key Features Revealed

Apple has officially stepped into the foldable smartphone market with the new iPhone Duo, while also introducing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The new devices bring major upgrades in design, cameras, performance, battery life and artificial intelligence features, with India included among the first markets to receive them.

Apple has opened a completely new chapter in its iPhone lineup with the introduction of its first-ever foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. The company has launched the foldable model alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, giving consumers a choice between a futuristic foldable design and Apple’s latest conventional flagship models.

The iPhone Duo is the biggest design change Apple has made to the iPhone family in years. When opened, the device features a large 7.6-inch inner display, while the outer screen measures 5.4 inches. Apple says the foldable display experience is designed to provide a larger canvas for entertainment, multitasking and everyday productivity while still allowing the phone to remain compact when folded.

The company has also focused heavily on camera technology and performance across the new lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro models introduce a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, giving users greater control over photography and allowing the camera to automatically adapt to different lighting conditions.

All three new models are powered by Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, which is built using a 2nm process and brings improvements in processing power, graphics and artificial intelligence performance.

The new iPhone Duo will be offered in Star White and Night Sky colour options and will be available with up to 2TB of storage.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo in India will begin on October 16, with sales starting October 23. The device will initially be available in India and more than 70 other countries and regions. It will then expand to another 28 markets from October 30.

The iPhone Duo comes with an eSIM-only design worldwide. Apple says more than 500 carriers support eSIM technology, including major Indian operators such as Airtel, Jio and Vi.

A New Foldable Design

The iPhone Duo opens into a 7.6-inch display, making it the largest screen ever offered on an iPhone. Once folded, users get a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display.

Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Apple has also designed the two screens with the same aspect ratio to provide a more consistent experience when moving between the folded and unfolded modes.

The inner display features a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare. Apple has also placed an under-display FaceTime camera beneath the main foldable screen.

The phone itself is constructed using Grade 5 titanium, combined with a mirror-polished finish. Ceramic Shield protection is used on the back, while the front gets the more durable Ceramic Shield 2. The device also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Apple has paid particular attention to the hinge mechanism. The hinge contains more than 100 components and uses support ribs and ceramic fibre inserts to improve rigidity and durability.

iPhone Duo Camera Features

Photography remains a major part of the new iPhone Duo experience. The foldable phone comes with a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, along with a Center Stage front camera.

Apple has also introduced several features specifically designed around the foldable form factor. These include Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime.

For video enthusiasts, the phone supports 4K video recording at up to 120fps with Dolby Vision.

iOS 27 and Performance

The iPhone Duo runs on iOS 27, which has been redesigned to take advantage of the larger foldable display.

Apple has introduced features such as side-mounted controls, dual Home Screen pages, Split View multitasking and an improved StandBy mode. The company is also bringing new AI capabilities through Siri AI, which can use personal context and information displayed on the screen to help users complete tasks and find information.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, featuring a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. A vapour chamber cooling system has also been included to help manage heat during demanding workloads.

Battery life is another key feature. Apple says the dual-battery system can deliver up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display, depending on how the phone is used.

The device also supports fast wired and wireless charging.

For connectivity, Apple has introduced its N1 wireless chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The phone also uses Apple’s new C2 modem system.

Apple Pencil USB-C support is planned for the device later this year.

The two Pro models will go on sale in India from September 18, along with more than 65 other countries and regions. Availability will expand to another 20 markets from September 25.

iPhone 18 Pro Camera Gets a Major Upgrade

One of the biggest highlights of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is the new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.

The addition of variable aperture gives iPhone users more control over how their photos look. Apple is bringing manual aperture control to the iPhone for the first time, with a six-blade system offering four aperture settings.

The camera can also automatically adjust the aperture depending on lighting and depth-of-field requirements.

Apple has further expanded its photography controls with upgraded Photographic Styles and Pro-level controls for settings such as shutter speed and white balance. A new histogram also gives photographers more information about exposure while taking pictures.

The company has introduced an Apple Reference Image feature that can create a reference version of a photograph using signed sensor data, helping users determine whether an image has been edited.

Video recording has also received several upgrades, including cinematic effects that can be applied after recording at up to 60fps, 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording and an updated Audio Mix.

A20 Pro Chip Brings More Power

Both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip.

The chip includes a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. Apple claims that the GPU can be up to 40 per cent faster than the previous-generation A19 Pro, while the Neural Engine provides up to twice the AI processing power.

Apple has also redesigned the vapour chamber cooling system, increasing its surface area by three times compared with the previous generation. According to Apple, this allows the new Pro models to deliver up to 40 per cent higher sustained performance.

Longer Battery Life

Battery performance is another area where Apple says the new Pro models have improved.

The iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours.

The iPhone 18 Pro can reach up to 50 per cent charge in around 15 minutes, while wireless charging can reach 50 per cent in approximately 30 minutes.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide around seven hours of video playback after just five minutes of wired charging.

iOS 27 and AI Features

Both Pro models come with iOS 27 and support Apple’s latest Intelligence features and Siri AI.

The updated Siri can use personal context from messages, emails and photos. It can also understand information displayed on the screen and help users find information or perform certain actions.

Another new feature, iPhone Handoff, allows users with supported carriers to switch between two iPhone models while retaining the same phone number.

The Pro models also feature Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.

Apple’s new C2 cellular modem is designed to improve connectivity and upload performance while using less power. Apple says the modem can deliver faster uploads than the previous C1X while consuming around 15 per cent less energy.

Apple’s Biggest iPhone Refresh Yet

With the launch of the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple is expanding the iPhone lineup in two very different directions.

The iPhone Duo represents Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone segment, combining a compact folded design with a tablet-like inner display. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro models focus on advanced photography, faster performance, improved thermal management, longer battery life and deeper AI integration.

With prices reaching ₹4,49,900 for the 2TB iPhone Duo, Apple is positioning its newest foldable as a premium flagship device. The Pro models, meanwhile, continue to target users looking for a traditional iPhone experience with Apple’s most advanced hardware and camera technology.

For Indian consumers, the launch is particularly significant as the country is included among the first markets to receive all three new models, giving customers early access to Apple’s latest generation of iPhone technology.
