Ajmer Man Fights Off Chain-Snatchers To Save Retired Couple, CCTV Captures Brave Act

A routine ride home for a retired doctor and his wife in Rajasthan’s Ajmer turned frightening when two motorcycle-borne men allegedly tried to snatch the woman’s chain. Their escape, however, was disrupted by a nearby resident who stepped in and confronted the attackers.
The dramatic incident, which took place in the Civil Lines area on September 12, was captured on CCTV. The footage has since spread widely on social media, with many users praising the man who came to the elderly couple’s aid.
According to reports, the couple were returning home on their scooter and were only around 100 metres from their house when the two men approached them.
The accused allegedly tried to grab the woman’s chain. The sudden struggle caused both the attackers’ motorcycle and the couple’s scooter to lose balance and fall.
The situation then became even more alarming.
As the couple struggled with the men, the pillion rider allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a pistol and threatened them before managing to snatch the chain from the woman’s neck.
The woman’s cries for help attracted the attention of people nearby.
One bystander immediately rushed towards the attackers and confronted them. In a crucial intervention, he reportedly knocked the motorcycle rider off the bike.
The rider managed to escape from the spot, but his alleged accomplice did not get far.
The second suspect attempted to run away on foot, but by then several local residents had joined the chase. The crowd caught him and allegedly assaulted him before police arrived.
Personnel from the Civil Lines police station reached the location after being alerted and began investigating the incident.
Police are examining the CCTV footage to piece together exactly what happened and identify the suspect who managed to flee.
The alleged use of a fake pistol has also added another disturbing element to the incident, highlighting how quickly chain-snatching attempts can escalate into a potentially dangerous confrontation.
Social Media Praises The Bystander
The CCTV footage has prompted a strong reaction online, with several users applauding the man for choosing to intervene rather than simply watch the incident.
One user wrote, “The guy is no less than a saviour in the era where people just watch & record.”
Another commented, “A perfect video to show that a country can have both kind of persons: Good and bad.”
A third user called for greater recognition of people who step forward to prevent crimes, writing that those who intervene to help others should be encouraged.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of community vigilance. While confronting criminals can be dangerous and people should prioritise their own safety, the Ajmer incident shows how the quick response of a bystander can sometimes make a critical difference.
For the elderly couple, what began as an ordinary journey home ended in a frightening encounter. But the intervention of one stranger ensured that at least one of the alleged attackers did not get away.
