Navi Mumbai Murder Mystery Solved: Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Woman and Burning Body to Hide Crime
A chilling murder case that baffled investigators for nearly two months has been solved by Navi Mumbai Police, leading to the arrest of a man accused of killing a woman and setting her body on fire in an attempt to erase all evidence.
The victim, 30-year-old Anitadevi Bhagwan Rajbhar, was initially unidentified when her charred and decomposed body was discovered near the Chinchvali-Wakdi village area in Panvel on April 11. With no identification documents at the scene, police launched an extensive investigation involving jewellery identification, CCTV footage analysis, and technical surveillance.
The breakthrough came when investigators matched the jewellery found on the body with details from a missing person report filed in neighbouring Thane district. Further examination of call records revealed frequent communication between Rajbhar and Karan Namdev Patil, a brick supplier from Shilphata.
According to police, Patil became a prime suspect after failing to respond to summons issued during the investigation. Upon questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime.
Investigators say Rajbhar had been pressuring Patil to marry her. In an effort to avoid the commitment, he allegedly lured her into his car on April 6, drove her to a secluded location, and attacked her with an iron rod. Police claim he later transported the body to a remote area in Panvel, poured petrol taken from his vehicle over the body, and set it ablaze to destroy evidence.
Patil was arrested on June 8 and has been charged with murder and destruction of evidence. He has been remanded to police custody while further investigations continue.
Police officials described the case as a result of meticulous detective work, combining traditional investigation methods with digital evidence to uncover the truth behind a crime that initially appeared impossible to solve.
