Delhi Police Issues Notices to X Accounts Over Abusive Posts Targeting PM Modi During CJP Protests
New Delhi: Delhi Police has issued notices to several X (formerly Twitter) accounts, including some linked to news portals, over posts that allegedly contained abusive language targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and security personnel during the ongoing CJP-led student protests.
According to sources, the notices seek details about individuals who shared or posted objectionable content on the platform. While the exact number of accounts that received notices has not been disclosed, the move comes after authorities reviewed social media activity related to the demonstrations.
Police officials examined posts, videos and comments shared during and after the protests to identify content that could potentially violate the law or disrupt public order.
Earlier this week, Delhi Police also instructed social media platforms to remove posts and videos featuring offensive remarks against the Prime Minister that surfaced during the protests at Jantar Mantar and the violence linked to the July 20 “Sansad Chalo” march.
Officials said the force’s social media monitoring team has been continuously tracking online activity connected to the protests. Whenever objectionable content is identified, notices are sent to social media platforms requesting its removal.
Several posts and videos containing abusive language have already been taken down following these notices, police said.
The monitoring process is still underway, with cyber and social media teams closely watching online platforms to identify additional content that may violate legal provisions and take further action where necessary.
Earlier, Delhi Police had also claimed that it identified more than 400 social media accounts allegedly linked to Pakistan that were spreading misinformation, rumours and deepfake videos related to the protests.
