Cricket Australia’s Blunt Message To BCCI On Foreign Players’ IPL 2025 Return

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to resume on May 17 after a temporary suspension due to escalating India-Pakistan border tensions, the return of foreign players—especially from Australia—has become a matter of individual choice and global cricket scheduling.
Cricket Australia (CA) has now clarified its stance, saying it will respect each player’s personal decision on whether to return for the remaining IPL matches or stay back and focus on national duties—especially with the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa scheduled for June 11.
“Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not,” CA said in an official statement, adding that team management will coordinate preparations for the WTC final for those who decide to continue playing in the IPL.
The delay in the IPL final—now set for June 3, just a week before the WTC final—has placed Australian and South African players in a difficult position, forcing them to choose between IPL commitments and national representation.
Key Australian stars such as Josh Hazlewood (who is confirmed to miss the rest of the season), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Josh Inglis are yet to officially decide. Meanwhile, the BCCI has asked IPL franchises to call back all overseas players, setting up a tense situation between league demands and international priorities.
Cricket Australia also mentioned ongoing discussions with the Australian Government and BCCI regarding security arrangements and player safety, emphasizing that off-field concerns remain just as pressing.
As players weigh their choices, the coming days will reveal who chooses club over country—or finds a way to honour both.
