CBI Arrests Four, Including Two Senior RDSO Officers in ₹4 Lakh Bribery Case

Lucknow / Howrah | September 15, 2026
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four individuals, including two public servants holding senior positions at the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving ₹4 lakh. The other two accused are representatives of a private company based in Kolkata.
According to the CBI, the arrests were made during a trap operation at a hotel in Howrah, where the two public servants and the private individuals were allegedly caught while accepting ₹4 lakh as illegal gratification. The alleged bribe was reportedly linked to the issuance of a favourable inspection report for the plant and machinery at the private company’s factory.
The case has raised concerns about alleged corruption in official inspection procedures and the possibility of private companies seeking favourable reports through improper payments.
Case Registered Over Alleged Bribe for Inspection Report
The CBI registered the case on September 15, 2026, against the four accused following allegations of corruption and conspiracy.
As stated in the agency’s press release, the accused public servants allegedly acted in collusion with representatives of a Kolkata-based private company to obtain undue financial benefits. The alleged arrangement was intended to secure a favourable plant and machinery inspection report for the company’s factory.
Inspection reports can play an important role in determining whether industrial equipment and facilities meet applicable requirements. The CBI is investigating whether the alleged payment was intended to influence the official inspection process and secure a report favourable to the company.
Two RDSO Officers Among Those Arrested
The four arrested individuals include a Deputy Director and a Senior Section Engineer associated with RDSO, Lucknow, along with two representatives of the private company.
RDSO is an organisation associated with technical research, design and standards within Indian Railways. The allegations in this case concern the purported use of official responsibilities to obtain illegal gratification in connection with an inspection report.
The CBI has alleged that the public servants and private individuals were acting in conspiracy with one another. The investigation will seek to establish the specific roles of each accused and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment.
CBI Trap Operation Conducted in Howrah
After registering the case, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused at a hotel in Howrah while they were allegedly accepting ₹4 lakh from the private company’s representatives.
In addition to the alleged bribe amount, the agency recovered and seized another ₹4.73 lakh in cash. This additional cash is also expected to be examined as part of the investigation.
The recovery of the money forms part of the evidence being considered by investigators as they work to establish the details of the alleged transaction and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Searches Underway in Kolkata, Lucknow and Bihar
Following the arrests, the CBI initiated searches at the residential and office premises of the accused at multiple locations across Kolkata, Lucknow and Bihar.
During these searches, the agency recovered and seized documents and digital evidence considered relevant to the case. The seized material will be examined to identify possible links between the accused, establish the sequence of events and determine whether the alleged bribery arrangement involved any additional transactions or individuals.
The searches are also expected to help investigators gather further information about communications and records connected with the inspection process and the alleged payment.
Accused to Be Produced Before the Competent Court
The CBI stated that the arrested individuals would be produced before the competent court. Further legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the applicable law.
The agency is continuing its investigation to establish the full circumstances of the alleged bribery, verify the evidence collected and determine the role of each accused. Any further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the legal process.
The case highlights allegations of corruption involving public officials and private representatives in connection with an official inspection. However, the allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial proceedings, and guilt will be determined through the legal process.
