Zakir Khan Makes History With Sold-Out Hindi Comedy Show At Madison Square Garden

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has created history by becoming the first Indian to perform a Hindi-language comedy show at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. The landmark performance, which took place on August 17 as part of his ongoing North America tour, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 6,000 people, selling out the venue.
The 37-year-old comedian from Indore — famous for his relatable “sakht launda” persona and heartfelt storytelling — called it a “big day” in an emotional Instagram post, thanking his team, friends, and fans for helping him reach this milestone. He said it was overwhelming to perform a full Hindi show at such a legendary venue.
Zakir was joined on stage by fellow comedian Tanmay Bhat, and the show featured his signature mix of observational comedy, poetic shayari, and emotional depth. Ahead of the show, his poster lit up billboards in Times Square, and he appeared on several US media outlets where he spoke about the importance of representing Hindi at a global platform like Madison Square Garden. He even took part in a fun cooking session with celebrity chef Vikas Khanna.
In an interview with Fox 5 New York, Zakir admitted that performing at MSG had never even crossed his mind.
“It always felt like a place for big movie stars — never for a boy from Indore. Sometimes life goes beyond even your own dreams,” he said.
Zakir rose to prominence in 2012 after winning Comedy Central’s ‘India’s Best Stand-Up’ competition and has since become one of the most popular stand-up comedians in the country and abroad. His relatable stories, “aam aadmi” persona and sharp humour made him a fan favourite.
He has also released several acclaimed comedy specials, including Haq Se Single, Tathastu and Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare.
Prior to MSG, he became the first Asian comedian to perform a solo show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2023, and has also performed at iconic venues like the Sydney Opera House.
