Volvo XC60 Becomes Brand’s Top-Selling Model With Over 2.7 Million Units Sold

The Volvo XC60 has officially become the best-selling vehicle in the company’s history, crossing the milestone of 2.7 million units sold worldwide. This achievement surpasses the iconic Volvo 240 and reflects the SUV’s strong appeal since its launch in 2008. Renowned for its blend of safety, design, and performance, the XC60 continues to be a favourite among families and premium SUV buyers.

In 2018, the XC60 was honoured with the prestigious title of World Car of the Year. Its success is attributed to Volvo’s focus on offering a refined yet practical SUV experience that integrates modern Scandinavian aesthetics with cutting-edge safety technology.

Sussanne Hagglund, Head of Global Offer at Volvo, shared, “In the 1980s, the Volvo 240 was the family car of Sweden. Today, the XC60 has taken that legacy forward—not only as a beloved family vehicle but as our all-time best-seller. That speaks volumes about its success.”

Echoing this sentiment, Jyoti Malhotra, MD of Volvo Car India, said, “The XC60 strikes the right balance between powerful performance and the safety that Volvo stands for. For Indian families, it offers a premium driving experience, functional SUV features, and, most importantly, peace of mind.”

The XC60 has played a key role in introducing advanced safety features, including City Safety—Volvo’s automatic emergency braking system first launched in 2008, which has since become an industry standard.

Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, the XC60 produces 250 hp and 360 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.
