Vijay Rules Out Alliance, Declares 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls Will Be Between DMK and TVK

Actor-turned-politician Vijay has firmly ruled out alliances for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, asserting that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will go solo. Addressing the party’s second state conference in Madurai before a massive crowd of supporters, Vijay declared that the upcoming contest would be between the DMK and TVK, and no one else.
Vijay, who announced that he will contest from Madurai East, urged people to consider him the candidate across all constituencies, emphasizing that a vote for TVK is a vote for him. “I am a lion. I’m marking my territory. TVK is an unstoppable force, here to dominate,” he said, ruling out playing a secondary role to the state’s traditional Dravidian giants.
Reiterating his famous stance, Vijay said his “only ideological enemy” is the BJP while his “only political enemy” is the DMK, effectively shutting the door on any tie-up with either the ruling DMK or the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
Outlining TVK’s priorities, Vijay said his party’s politics would be “real, emotional, and people-centric,” with focus on the safety of women, children, farmers, the elderly, transgender individuals, and the differently abled.
The actor also touched on burning issues such as the retrieval of Katchatheevu and the scrapping of NEET. “Over 800 Tamil Nadu fishermen have been attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy. To protect them, retrieve Katchatheevu. Revoke NEET! Can you do it, Narendra Modi avargal?” he asked, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
Choosing Madurai, considered the cultural heartland of Tamil politics and long seen as an AIADMK stronghold now dominated by the DMK, was seen as a strategic move to send a strong political message to southern Tamil Nadu and consolidate anti-DMK voters.
