Vadodara Crash: Law Student Insisted on Driving Before Fatal Accident, New Footage Reveals

A tragic accident in Vadodara has left one woman dead and seven others injured after a 23-year-old law student, Rakshit Chaurasia, allegedly took the wheel moments before the crash. New CCTV footage suggests that Rakshit convinced his friend, Pranshu Chauhan, to switch seats just before they drove off.

What the Footage Shows

The footage captures Rakshit arriving at his friend Suresh’s house on a scooter late Thursday night. He is seen holding a bottle, though its contents remain unknown. A short while later, Pranshu arrives in a Volkswagen Virtus sedan and joins them inside. Around 11:25 PM, Rakshit and Pranshu leave the house and head to the car. Initially, Pranshu takes the driver’s seat, but after a brief conversation, he moves over, seemingly at Rakshit’s insistence.

Shortly after they drive away, the car collides with three vehicles. Hemali Patel, 35, tragically lost her life on the spot, while seven others were left injured.

Aftermath of the Crash

Video footage from the crash site shows the car’s front end badly damaged with airbags deployed. In the moments following the accident, Pranshu is seen stepping out of the car, visibly shaken, calling Rakshit “mad” before fleeing the scene. Meanwhile, Rakshit appears incoherent, shouting phrases like “another round” and “Om Namah Shivay” before the crowd confronts him.

While Pranshu is currently on the run, Rakshit has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He denies being intoxicated or speeding, instead blaming the car’s airbags for obstructing his vision and causing the accident.

Public Outrage and Calls for Justice

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with victims and their families demanding stricter action against reckless driving. One of the injured, Vikas Kevlani, emphasized that fines alone won’t deter such incidents. “Only strict action will make people realize the consequences of their actions,” he stated.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, including confirming whether Rakshit pressured his friend into letting him drive. Meanwhile, the search for Pranshu Chauhan remains ongoing.
