US-British Coalition Escalates Airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi Targets

Precision Strikes Target Weapon Storage Facilities Amid Rising Regional Tensions

In a significant escalation, the US-British coalition launched multiple airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in northern Yemen early Thursday, including the capital Sanaa, the al-Masirah TV reported. The strikes hit the Sanhan district south of Sanaa, Harf Sufyan in Amran province, and Al-Luhayyah in Hodeidah province, with residents confirming the targets as Houthi military sites.

This marks the second round of strikes within 24 hours, following similar operations on Wednesday. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the earlier strikes targeted underground storage facilities used by Iranian-backed Houthis to store advanced conventional weapons. According to CENTCOM, these facilities were linked to attacks on US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Houthi official Hussein al-Ezzi responded on social media, accusing the US of continued aggression, warning of consequences. The strikes come amid ongoing hostilities, with the Houthis intensifying rocket and drone attacks against Israel and disrupting shipping in the Red Sea since November 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians.

The US-led coalition has responded with air raids to neutralize Houthi threats, further heightening tensions in the region. On January 5, three airstrikes targeted Houthi military sites in Saada province, as part of ongoing efforts to deter the group’s attacks on maritime and military assets.

The situation underscores the fragile security dynamics in the region, with fears of a broader conflict as the Houthis expand their retaliatory operations.
