Two Police Officers Suspended, Detained for Allegedly Extorting Bribe from Kanpur Businessman

KANPUR (UP): In a case of alleged corruption, two police officers and a local corporator were detained on Monday for extorting a bribe from a businessman in Kanpur. The accused policemen, Sub-Inspectors Ashish Chaudhry and Anuj Nagar, have been suspended from duty following the incident.

According to officials, the two officers, in collusion with corporator Rajput Sahu, threatened the businessman by claiming that his business was being run illegally. They reportedly intimidated him with the possibility of sealing his house and confiscating his goods unless he paid a bribe.

The businessman, refusing to give in to the threats, lodged a formal complaint, prompting swift action by local authorities. Based on the complaint, the Ghatampur police station was instructed to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the two sub-inspectors and the corporator.

The case has raised concerns about corruption within law enforcement, with authorities vowing to take strict action against those involved. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and hold officials accountable for abuses of power. The investigation is underway, and further legal proceedings will follow based on the findings.
