Two Earthquakes, Including One Of 5.7 Magnitude, Hit Manipur

Imphal/Shillong/Guwahati: Manipur experienced two back-to-back earthquakes on Wednesday, with tremors felt across the northeastern states. The first quake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, struck at 11:06 AM, with its epicenter located 44 km east of Yairipok in Imphal East district at a depth of 110 km, according to officials from the Regional Seismological Centre in Shillong.
A second tremor, measuring 4.1 magnitude, followed at 12:20 PM, hitting Kamjong district at a depth of 66 km.
The quakes caused cracks in several buildings across Manipur. Videos circulating on social media showed damage to a school building in Wangjing Lamding, Thoubal district, where a relief camp for those affected by ethnic violence was being operated. Officials in Imphal are assessing the extent of the damage.
While the tremors were felt in Assam, Meghalaya, and other parts of the Northeast, no reports of damage have emerged from these states so far.
