Small Incident That Got “Really Wild”: Abu Azmi’s Son Booked Over Fight In Goa

Panaji: Maharashtra SP MLA Abu Azmi’s son, Abu Farhan Azmi, has addressed the recent scuffle in Goa, calling it a minor misunderstanding that unexpectedly spiraled out of control.
Speaking outside Calangute police station, Farhan Azmi, a well-known restaurateur and husband of actor Ayesha Takia, emphasized that he holds no ill feelings towards Goa or its people. “Goa is like a second home to me, and I would never want to be seen as someone against Goans,” he stated.
The incident, which led to a police case against him and others for disturbing public peace, took place on Monday night when Azmi reportedly got into a dispute with a biker. Explaining his side, he said, “I had given an indicator to turn left, but the group pushed me and hurled abuses. I was with my son enjoying Goa when things escalated.”
As the situation intensified, Azmi called the police, saying, “It got really wild.” However, he firmly denied allegations that he brandished a weapon, insisting, “I am not that kind of person. I have been visiting Goa for 20 years, and I love this place.”
Expressing his disappointment over the incident, Azmi said he has received support from many Goan friends. “What happened saddens me, but I am grateful for the support. The Goa police have been very cooperative, and I have been fully cooperating with them,” he added.
In a bid to de-escalate tensions, he remarked, “Let’s put an end to this matter. I am even willing to apologize, though I wasn’t in the wrong. I respect the law and love Goa.”
The controversy unfolds at a time when his father, Abu Azmi, faces political heat in Maharashtra over remarks regarding Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. The MLA was recently suspended from the Maharashtra legislative assembly until March 26 following an FIR and criticism from the ruling coalition.
