Russian Missile Strike Devastates Zelensky’s Hometown, Killing 12 Including Children

Kyiv:
A heartbreaking missile strike hit Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih on Friday evening, killing 12 people, including three children, and injuring more than 50 others.
The attack, carried out by a Russian ballistic missile, left a trail of destruction in the central Ukrainian city. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, confirmed the death toll and said the number of wounded was still rising. “A car and garages are on fire,” he added, highlighting the chaos left in the missile’s wake.
Regional governor Sergiy Lysak shared the grim update on Telegram, noting the tragic loss of young lives among the dead. Unverified videos circulating on social media showed smoke billowing into the evening sky, capturing the horror of yet another civilian attack.
Located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Kryvyi Rih lies about 60 kilometers from the front lines. Despite its distance from direct combat zones, it has repeatedly been targeted by Russian missiles and drones. Just two days earlier, another missile strike on the city claimed at least four lives and left many injured.
The deadly assault comes as diplomatic tensions escalate. While the U.S. under President Donald Trump pushes for a swift end to the over three-year-long war, efforts appear stalled. Russia has rejected a joint U.S.-Ukrainian ceasefire proposal, and Ukraine accuses Moscow of prolonging negotiations without any real intention of halting its offensive.
For the people of Kryvyi Rih, the toll of war continues to mount—claiming innocent lives, tearing apart families, and leaving scars that may take generations to heal.
