Raj Thackeray Joins Opposition’s “March for Truth” in Rare Display of Unity Over Voter Fraud Allegations

In a striking display of opposition solidarity, Maharashtra’s leading political figures — Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Balasaheb Thorat, and Raj Thackeray — came together on Friday in Mumbai for the “Satyacha Morcha” (March for Truth), protesting what they alleged to be widespread irregularities in Maharashtra’s voter lists.

The rally marked a historic first: the Congress sharing the stage with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray — a party with which it had long held deep political differences. Despite earlier skepticism from Congress leaders such as Bhai Jagtap and Harshwardhan Sapkal, the gravity of the voter fraud allegations brought the opposition under one banner.

Allegations of “Vote Theft” and Manipulation

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the ruling establishment, claiming a systematic effort to manipulate voter rolls across Maharashtra.

“They stole my party, tried to steal my father’s legacy, and now they are stealing votes,” Thackeray declared. “This is just a spark that could soon turn into a fire.”

He alleged that attempts had been made to delete his and his family’s names from the electoral list using the government’s Saksham app, and vowed to take the matter to court.

Echoing his cousin’s concerns, Raj Thackeray alleged that fake and duplicate voters had been added in multiple constituencies, including Mumbai, Nashik, and Maval. Holding up stacks of documents, he asked pointedly:

“Everyone, including ruling parties, admits fake voters have been added. The question is — where did they come from?”

He further accused the Election Commission of rushing to conduct elections despite glaring irregularities, asking, “If you could wait for five years, why not one more year to ensure transparency?”

Sharad Pawar’s Call for a United Democratic Front

Veteran NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar invoked the spirit of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, urging citizens to defend democracy through unity and constitutional action.

“The last assembly elections shook people’s faith in democracy. It is time we rise above political divides and fight to protect the Constitution,” Pawar said, warning against complacency in the face of electoral manipulation.

Ground-Level Claims and Citizen Appeal

During the protest, opposition leaders cited instances of fake Aadhaar-linked voter entries, including bizarre cases where names were added under public places such as toilets in Navi Mumbai.

Uddhav Thackeray called upon citizens across Maharashtra — and the country — to verify their names on the voter rolls and remain vigilant.

“Democracy begins with your name on that list. Don’t let anyone steal that right from you,” he urged.

A Political Turning Point

The “March for Truth” not only spotlighted allegations of electoral fraud but also signaled a new phase in Maharashtra’s political alliances. For the first time, Raj Thackeray shared a platform with the MVA coalition, hinting at a potential reshaping of opposition dynamics ahead of the coming elections.

The protest underscored a growing sentiment among opposition leaders — that the fight for fair elections is fast becoming the defining democratic battle of Maharashtra’s political landscape.
