Punjabi Actor and Bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman Passes Away After Heart Attack

Renowned Punjabi actor and professional bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman passed away on Thursday evening after suffering a heart attack, his family confirmed.

According to his manager, Yadvinder Singh, Ghuman had complained of shoulder pain earlier in the day and was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, told reporters in Jalandhar that the actor suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment.

The 41-year-old Ghuman, a well-known figure in the fitness and film industry, had appeared in several movies, including Salman Khan’s “Tiger 3” (2023), “Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans” (2014), “Marjaavan” (2019), and the Punjabi film “Kabaddi Once Again” (2012).

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Ghuman was one of India’s most celebrated bodybuilders. He won the Mr. India title in 2009 and was the runner-up at the Mr. Asia competition. Originally from Gurdaspur, he resided in Jalandhar, where he ran his own gym. Admired as a “vegetarian bodybuilder,” Ghuman was passionate about promoting fitness and regularly shared his workout routines on social media.

He had recently expressed his intention to contest the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027.

Leaders across political parties paid tribute to Ghuman’s sudden demise.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu described him as the “pride of Punjab,” saying, “The passing of Varinder Ghuman ji, the ‘He-Man of India,’ is an irreparable loss. He inspired countless youths through his dedication and vegetarian lifestyle.”

Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also expressed grief, stating, “It’s heartbreaking to hear about the untimely demise of Punjab’s famous bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman. He brought great glory to Punjab through his talent and discipline. May Waheguru grant peace to his soul.”

Congress MLA Pargat Singh wrote, “He was a devoted vegetarian who built his body with hard work and grace. May his soul rest in peace.”

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal added, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of international bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman. His journey was an inspiration for Punjab’s youth, and his legacy will continue to motivate generations to come.”
