PM Modi Congratulates Donald Trump on Becoming 47th US President, Expresses Optimism for Future Collaboration

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, marking the start of a new chapter in US leadership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations via X, expressing his eagerness to strengthen ties and collaborate for the mutual benefit of both nations.

“Congratulations, my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump, on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead!” Modi wrote.

While PM Modi did not attend the inauguration ceremony, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India as his special envoy. Speaking on X, Jaishankar expressed his honor at attending the event, saying, “Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC.”

Due to extreme cold weather, the inauguration ceremony took place indoors for the first time in 40 years.

In his inaugural address, President Trump declared that the United States was entering a new “golden age,” pledging to lead the nation to unprecedented success. “We’re going to win like never before,” he said. Among his priorities, Trump announced plans to sign several executive orders, including declaring a national emergency at the Mexico border and an energy initiative focused on increased drilling.
