Parliament Clash: BJP’s FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Moved to Crime Branch Amid BJP-Congress Tensions

The Delhi Police have transferred the FIR filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to the Crime Branch for further investigation. The case stems from a heated scuffle that broke out between BJP and Congress MPs at the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament on Thursday, following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, leaving BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput hospitalised with reported head injuries. BJP leaders accused Rahul Gandhi of instigating the incident, claiming he “physically assaulted and incited” the situation. The FIR was filed based on complaints by BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj.
In response, Congress leaders filed a counter-complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station, alleging that BJP MPs attempted to block Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and other MPs, including women, from protesting peacefully. Rahul Gandhi later claimed that BJP MPs tried to physically prevent him from entering Parliament and threatened him.
Congress leaders, including Digvijaya Singh and Mukul Wasnik, lodged their complaint in person but noted that no FIR has been registered on their behalf so far. Kharge has since written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding an inquiry into the incident, calling it an attack not only on him personally but also on the position of Leader of Opposition and the Congress president.
The Congress has continued its protest, demanding an apology from Amit Shah for what they call “insulting” remarks against Ambedkar. Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of attempting to deflect attention from other issues, particularly concerns about the Adani case in the United States.
Both sides remain locked in a standoff, as the political temperature rises in Parliament.
