Pakistani Entrepreneur’s Unexpected Mumbai Layover: Enjoys Vada Pao, Shares Unique Travel Experience

Waqas Hassan, a Pakistani entrepreneur, recently had an unexpected yet enjoyable layover in Mumbai while traveling from Singapore to Saudi Arabia on an IndiGo flight. With a six-hour stop at Mumbai airport, he made the most of his time by savoring the city’s famous vada pao and sharing his experience on Instagram.
Hassan, the founder of AiForAll, discovered that Pakistani passport holders can transit through India as long as they are on a connecting flight to a third country. However, they are not allowed to exit the airport, as self-check-in flights are not permitted for Pakistani travelers. According to the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, transit visas allow a short stay of up to 36 hours in the city of arrival, limited to specific airports like Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai.
Reflecting on his experience, Hassan mentioned that despite traveling for 15 years, he was unaware of this transit rule. Even the airport officials were surprised to see a Pakistani passport being used in transit, as it is a rare occurrence. He described the experience as “pretty fun” and appreciated IndiGo for its affordability.
His Instagram video, where he shared his thoughts and showcased his time at the airport, has since gone viral, amassing nearly 770,000 views and over 20,000 likes.
