Owaisi Criticizes Allahabad HC Judge for Attending VHP Event, Raises Concerns Over Judicial Neutrality

Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM, has condemned Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court for attending a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) event, calling into question the judge’s impartiality and judicial independence.

Justice Yadav participated in the VHP’s conference in Prayagraj on Sunday, where he reportedly made statements regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), claiming that India should be governed according to the “wishes of the majority.” This prompted Owaisi to express concerns about the appropriateness of a sitting judge engaging with a group like the VHP, which has faced multiple bans in the past for its controversial actions.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Owaisi criticized the judge for attending the event and making remarks that, in his view, undermined the principles of judicial fairness. “The Indian Constitution demands judicial independence and guarantees protection for the rights of minorities,” Owaisi said. He also highlighted that such statements from a sitting judge raise serious questions about the fairness of the judiciary.

Owaisi questioned whether minority parties could expect fair justice from a judge who associates with an organization like the VHP, which is ideologically linked to the RSS. This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the intersection of politics and the judiciary in India, and the potential erosion of judicial neutrality.
