Outrage in J&K as Video Shows Police Officer Kicking Woman Protester, Probe Ordered

Srinagar: A video showing a police officer kicking a woman protester in Kulgam district has sparked widespread outrage, prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident.

The footage, which surfaced on social media, shows the officer’s aggressive conduct during a protest. In response, Kashmir Zone Police acknowledged the incident and assured action. “We have taken cognisance of the incident and the allegations against the officer. DIG South Kashmir Range (SKR) will conduct an inquiry and submit a report within 10 days,” the police stated in a post on X.

PDP leader Iltija Mufti condemned the officer’s actions, calling it “shocking and unacceptable.” She criticized the police for using excessive force against a peaceful protest. “This kind of behaviour from officers, who are supposed to uphold the law, only deepens the trust deficit between the people and the authorities,” she wrote on X.

The protests in Kulgam erupted after the body of a missing youth was found in a water body. He was one of three individuals who had gone missing last month. Just three days earlier, his brother’s body was also discovered in the same stream. The search for the third missing person is still ongoing.

The incident has once again raised concerns about police conduct in the region, with many calling for strict action against the officer involved.
