Oscars 2025 Nominations Delayed Amid Los Angeles Wildfires, Voting Period Extended

Academy Adjusts Schedule to Support Members Affected by Devastating Fires

Los Angeles: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced changes to the 2025 Oscars schedule due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The nomination voting period, initially set to end on January 12, has been extended to January 14, while the nomination announcements will now take place on January 19 instead of January 17.

In a statement to its nearly 10,000 members, Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed condolences for those impacted by the wildfires:

“We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been affected by the devastating fires across Southern California. Many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”

Other schedule changes include the postponement of the International Feature Shortlist Screening and the cancellation of in-person events, such as the Los Angeles Sound Branch Bake-Off and Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch Bake-Offs, originally scheduled for January 11.

Despite these adjustments, the 2025 Oscars ceremony remains set for March 2, with Conan O’Brien confirmed as the host.

The wildfires, including the devastating Palisades Fire near Malibu and Santa Monica, have claimed at least five lives, caused significant injuries, and destroyed over 1,000 structures. According to CalFire, this is the most destructive fire in Los Angeles County’s history.
