Nushrratt Bharuccha Says ‘Chhorii 2’ Needed the Four-Year Gap: “It Helped Me Grow and Let Go”

As fans gear up for the spine-chilling return of Chhorii 2 on April 11, 2025, lead actress Nushrratt Bharuccha and director Vishal Furia reflect on the journey from the first film to its much-anticipated sequel.

In a candid chat with ANI, Nushrratt revealed how the four-year break between Chhorii and its sequel played a vital role in shaping her performance and perspective. “The four-year gap was very helpful. If this had come back-to-back, I don’t know what I would’ve done,” she shared. “The break allowed me to do more light-hearted films… it helped me detach from the film, and sometimes detaching has its positive side.”

For the actress, returning to such an emotionally intense role after a break brought clarity and strength. She added, “It feels good when you give a performance and want to make a positive impact on the audience. You feel like giving yourself a pat on the back, like we did something meaningful.”

Director Vishal Furia, who helmed both installments, expressed excitement about the future of the Chhorii storyline. When asked about a possible Chhorii Universe, he said, “I don’t know about a universe, but I hope the story moves forward from here. We haven’t written anything yet, but we do have a few ideas. If people like Chhorii 2, then I believe we’ll get another chance to explore more in the third part.”

The trailer for Chhorii 2—released earlier this week—hints at another dark, gripping narrative. It opens with Nushrratt’s character telling a haunting tale to her daughter, where a king, furious at the birth of a girl, commands a daasi to end the child’s life.

Chhorii 2 also stars Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma. Directed by Vishal Furia, the film is produced under the banners of T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Productions, and premieres globally on April 11, 2025.
