NASA’s Bennu Asteroid Sample Sheds Light on Life’s Cosmic Origins

NASA’s latest findings from asteroid Bennu are shaking up our understanding of life’s origins. The space agency’s OSIRIS-REx mission has returned a treasure trove of organic molecules, revealing that the building blocks of life might be more widespread across the universe than we ever imagined.

For decades, scientists have searched for signs of extraterrestrial life, but what if the clues have been right in front of us all along? Bennu, once thought to be just another space rock, has revealed something astonishing—evidence that key ingredients for life were scattered across the early solar system.

Samples analyzed from the asteroid contain all five nucleobases found in DNA and RNA, as well as 14 of the 20 amino acids essential for life.
